Creativity in a Changing Environment

The Year of Creativity Challenge III has now launched! Access the e-conference now!

What is the Year of Creativity?

The Year of Creativity provides an opportunity to celebrate creativity within our schools as well as provide new and exciting opportunities for students and teachers to develop their creative skills.

What is the challenge?

The Year of Creativity Challenge presents students with a series of stimuli regarding research currently being undertaken in Queensland.

Project topics will be divided into the following areas:

•    Biodiversity, ecology and the environment
•    Biotechnology for a sustainable future
•    Climate change
•    Transport and energy
•    Resource management
•    Sustainability and the built environment

Students will then be given the opportunity to design a project relevant to their community under one the above topics, around the theme of ‘Our Changing Environment’.

Over the course of 8 weeks student teams will competitively engage in open ended investigations exploring the fundamental principles of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics driving the topical urban sustainability issues facing Queensland.

Students will interact with their peers in an online e-community that is purpose built to foster engagement amongst teams investigating issues around similar urban challenges.

This e-community will also be enriched with resources and facilitate mentoring from a variety of scientists in collaborating organisations.

At the conclusion of the 8 weeks the e-community will be opened up to create an online conference where students can demonstrate their products, designs and investigations.

The Urban Sustainability Challenge culminates in a celebratory plenary evening showcasing the exemplary entries from the challenge.

The Year of Creativity Challenge projects builds student skills in:

•   creativity
•   communication
•   problem-solving
•   scientific process
•   scientific data analysis
