Alex Hibberd Memorial Scholarship

The scholarship is open to students who –
(a) have completed the Bachelor of Applied Science (BAppSc) program at this university; and
(b) are enrolled in the BAppSc(Hons) program; and
(c) will undertake a research project related to the pig industry.
The scholarship is awarded on the basis of highest academic achievement in the BAppSc program.
The Senate may award 1 scholarship each year on the recommendation of the Head, School of Agriculture and Food Sciences. The scholarship may be held for one year. The student cannot be awarded the scholarship on more than one occasion.

George Osborne Research Scholarship

The scholarship was established in 2009 in memory of the late Dr H. George Osborne, and is maintained by an annual donation from his family. Dr George Osborne contributed to the pastoral development of Australia through his work in veterinary science.
This scholarship is to support a PhD candidate engaged in beef cattle or sheep research, including production, reproduction or medicine research.
Eligibility for award
An applicant is eligible for the award of a scholarship in a year if, in that year, the applicant -
(a) is a domestic student within the meaning of the Fee Rules; and
(b) is undertaking a PhD in the Faculty of Science (pending); and
(c) is conducting beef cattle or sheep research, including production, reproduction or medicine research; and
(d) applies for the scholarship by the closing date for applications.
Selection process
Eligible applicants will be ranked consecutively in order of merit, based on, for each applicant:
(a) the applicant’s academic performance as a PhD student, to date; and
(b) the location of the research to be conducted, preference being given to candidates whose research is conducted at the Goondiwindi Pastoral Centre; and
(c) any other evidence that the Executive Dean considers to be relevant.
Duration of scholarship
The recipient of a scholarship may hold the scholarship for 1 year, subject to the recipient maintaining satisfactory academic progress during the year.
Value of the Scholarship is: $5,000

Integrated Natural Resource Management PhD Scholarship Program
AUS$7000 per annum plus up to AUD$10 000 expenses (including travel) per annum.

This scholarship provides financial support to assist the research and professional development of a postgraduate student studying in the area of tropical agronomy.
An applicant for a Bursary must —
(a) be a student of outstanding ability enrolled for a postgraduate award at The University of Queensland; and
(b) provide a plan indicating how the Bursary would be spent in furthering the applicant‘s research or professional development in the field of tropical agronomy.
This bursary is awarded based on income from the original bequest which changes from year to year. The bursary amount for 2010 was $1920.60

Robert Philp Scholarship

The scholarship is tenable for one year and is awarded by Senate on the recommendation of the Associate Dean (Academic), Faculty of Science (the Associate Dean) to a Bachelor of Agricultural Science student who undertakes to fulfil the condition in rule 2. Selection is on the basis of the highest GPA during the first 3 years of the program.
2. The recipient must pursue the fourth year of the Bachelor of Agricultural Science program as a full-time student.
3. If the recipient fails to comply with rule 2, the Associate Dean may recommend that Senate withdraw the scholarship.
The value of the award in 2011 was $2,441.77.

The Daniel Walker McLeod Bursary

The bursary was established in 1963.
A student is an eligible applicant for a bursary in a year, if, in that year, the applicant is a postgraduate student who is undertaking –
(a) a program for a degree with honours;
(b) a program for a master‘s degree,
(c) a program for a Doctor of Philosophy,
in the field of veterinary science.
Nomination of the recommended applicant will take into account the academic proficiency and the financial needs of candidates for the award. Applications should addess this criteria. The value of this bursary is variable.

The Dr John Gibb Memorial Biosecurity Prize
Closing Date: 25 November annually

Students enrolled in the final year of a four year or five year bachelor degree program administered by the Faculty of Science, or an honours program after having completed a three year bachelor program at the University or another university, in one of the following disciplines –
(i) agriculture; or
(ii) horticulture; or
(iii) veterinary science; or
(iv) animal studies; or
(v) environmental science; or
(vi) environmental management; or
(vii) food technology; or
(viii) food science and nutrition; or
(ix) a dual program including any of the above.
Best academic performance and application of science outcomes in –
(i) 6 units of courses containing a Biosecurity component for students enrolled in the final year of a four year or five year bachelor program; or
(ii) an honours project in the area of Biosecurity for students enrolled in an honours program, in a relevant discipline
The prize consists of a medal and $1, 500.

The Duncan McNaughton Scholarship
Closing date: not applicable
The scholarship is open to students who –
(a) have completed –
(i) the Bachelor of Science program; or
(ii) the first 3 years of the Bachelor of Biotechnology program; and
(b) have enrolled in the relevant program with honours in the Faculty of Science.
The scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic achievement over all courses undertaken to date in one of the programs listed above.
The scholarship is tenable for one year and is subject to the student enrolling to complete the honours program in the year of the award.
The scholarship may be cancelled, if in the opinion of the Associate Dean –
(a) the recipient fails or ceases to pursue the honours program; or
(b) the recipient is not making satisfactory academic progress.
The value of the scholarship is approximately half the annual income from the fund. This is an award based on academic merit. No application is necessary.
The Edwin Munro Scholarship in Agricultural Science

The Edwin Munro Scholarship is awarded to a student who has completed a Bachelor of Agricultural Science with Honours and is enrolled for the first time as a postgraduate student. This scholarship is awarded based on general proficiency throughout undergraduate studies.
