New MBRS Available Scholarships available

The MBRS Scholarship in partnership with Sibelco Australia

Conduct your student research in an idyllic setting at UQ’s Moreton Bay Research Station (MBRS) on North Stradbroke Island.

Sibelco Pty Ltd, in association with MBRS, is offering scholarships to the value of $2,500 to Honours and Research Higher Degree students from UQ to undertake research in any discipline. Scholarship winners would conduct their research from MBRS based on North Stradbroke Island.

The setting offers a wealth of opportunity and knowledge acquisition for students of indigenous studies, engineering, humanities, marine science, earth sciences, architecture, anthropology and more.

The scholarships could be used towards research in areas such as indigenous housing, Aboriginal health, oceanography, environmental management, mining engineering and rehabilitation, marine park management, evolution, terrestrial wildlife research, or any other research topic at UQ.

How many scholarships are available?

There are four (4) scholarships to be awarded in each of 2016, 2017, 2018 and there are six (6) scholarships to be awarded in 2019.

What can the scholarships be used for?

The scholarship funding will assist the recipients with access to accommodation, labs (including PC2 facilities), computers, scientific equipment, vehicles or boats located at MBRS.

The scholarships must be used for research that will be conducted at the Moreton Bay Research Station or across North Stradbroke Island terrestrial and/or marine environment.

The scholarships are to cover research costs, cannot be taken in cash and are non-transferable. Additional to the scholarships, Sibelco will cover some transport costs to and from North Stradbroke Island.

How will the scholarships be awarded?

The scholarships will be awarded to applicants showing the greatest merit as demonstrated by:

  1. Evidence of academic achievement
  2. Academic quality of the research proposal
  3. Significance and innovation of the research proposal
  4. Budget and justification of spending
