Today, Mathematics and Statistics combine insights from mathematical theory with modelling and computational skills and the latest computer technology to solve problems in the physical and biological sciences, engineering, information technology, economics and finance. In the 2015 Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) assessment UQ received a rating of 'above world standard' in the Mathematical Sciences, and the highest rating of ‘well above world-standard’ in Statistics, a distinction also held in the 2010 and 2012 ERA assessments.
