Program: Master of Veterinary Studies
Country of Origin: Republic of Korea

Why did you choose your current program at UQ?
UQ is known as a university with diverse programs and great facilities - even in my country. Four years ago, I had a chance to visit UQ and was very impressed by the many differences in the study and research environment between Korea and Australia. The veterinary science facilities at UQ are excellent and I believe it would be hard for other universities to compete with that.

What were your first impressions of Brisbane and UQ?
Because I had been in Brisbane before, I felt comfortable and familiar in this city. I prefer a quiet and slow paced lifestyle to a crowded and busy one. I settled in very quickly and love Gatton campus.

What are your impressions of Science at UQ?
When I first discovered UQ’s student e-learning site ‘Blackboard’ I was so excited. It allows me to preview or review lectures whenever I want, no matter how many times. I can also access lecture recordings, which, as an international student, I have found really helpful.

What do you plan to do after graduation?
I am planning to return to my home country to apply the advanced theories and techniques that I have learned at UQ at my clinic.

Do you have any advice for students from your country that are thinking about studying Science at UQ?
Science advances when people keep trying different ways. Students in my country usually have studied in a more passive way.  Knowledge is delivered from lecturer to student during lectures only. But at UQ you can discuss what you want to know more about. You can get more out of your studies when you keep asking questions. Please don’t be shy.
