General Faculty Scholarships
AECOM Undergraduate scholarship
Closing Date: Approximately March annually
Value: $2,500 (tenable for up to 2 years)

Up to 4 scholarships are available annually to domestic students who have completed #32 of a program at the University; and are enrolled full-time in year 3 in a program in one of the following fields -
- chemical engineering; or
- chemical and metallurgical engineering; or
- civil engineering; or
- electrical engineering; or
- electrical and aerospace engineering; or
- environmental engineering; or
- mechanical engineering; or
- mechanical and aerospace engineering; or
- environmental science; or
- regional and town planning; or
- mathematics
The scholarships are awarded on the basis of an overall GPA of 5.5 over their first #32; and an interest in a professional discipline within the professional services consulting sector; and personal qualities including leadership potential, innovation and self-motivation; and other evidence that may be considered relevant by the selection committee to the future success by the student in the professional services consulting industry.
Value: $2,500 per year , tenable for up to 2 years, subject to satisfactory academic progress and continued full-time enrolment in the program. Satisfactory academic pogress means maintaining a GPA of at least 5.00 each semester.

Clem Jones and E.W. (Ted) Jones Scholarship in Mathematics
Applications close: Approximately April annually
Value: $2,500 for up to 3 years

Open to domestic students who graduated from Ipswich Grammar School in the year immediately before the relevant year, and are enrolled full-time in Year 1 of one of the following programs-
the Bachelor of Science, majoring in mathematics;
the Bachelor of Engineering;
the Bachelor of Arts, majoring in mathematics;
the Bachelor of Education (Secondary) in the specialist teaching area of mathematics; or
the Bachelor of Education (Middle Years of Schooling) in the specialist teaching area of mathematics; or
a dual program including one of the above programs.
Awarded on merit, based on academic achievement in secondary school studies; and an interest in a career involving mathematics; and personal qualities; and other evidence that may be considered relevant to future success in working in the field of mathematics.
Value: $2,500 for up to 3 years, subject to satisfactory academic progress (maintaining a GPA of 5 each semester) and continued full-time enrolment in the program.

Laidley Freemasons Prize

Value: Money to the value of at least $1,200

Eligibility:
Students who –
(i) have completed 16 units of a program offered by the Faculty of Science at Gatton campus; and
(ii) are enrolled in a subsequent semester of the program referred to in paragraph (i); and
(i) have not previously been awarded the prize.
Applicants must submit a personal statement, by the closing date for applications, which addresses the following –
(i) involvement in community service;
(ii) leadership potential;
(ii) integrity of character.
The recipient may be asked to take part in promotional activities to promote the prize.

National Association of Women in Contruction (NAWIC) Scholarship
Closing Date: Approx September annually
Value: $2500

The NAWIC Scholarship is awarded to a female student who –
(a) are Australian citizens or who have attained permanent resident status in Australia; and
(b) have completed –
(i) the first 5 semesters of one of the following programs –
- Bachelor of Engineering in the field of civil engineering; or
- Bachelor of Regional and Town Planning; or
- the first 7 semesters of the Bachelor of Architecture; or
- the Bachelor of Architectural Design (or equivalent) and the first semester of the Master of Architecture; and
(c) intend to enrol in the final year of the program in the year of the award.

Science Exchange Scholarships

The Faculty of Science UQ Science Student Exchange Scholarships provide financial assistance to qualified science students to undertake a period of study overseas as an exchange student.
Four (4) scholarships are awarded by the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Science each year at the value of $7,500 each.
The scholarships are open to both domestic and international undergraduate students who:
- are undertaking one of the following degree programs:
- Bachelor of Science
- Bachelor of Agribusiness
- Bachelor of Agricultural Science
- Bachelor of Applied Science
- Bachelor of Biotechnology
- Bachelor of Biomedical Science
- Bachelor of Environmental Management
- Bachelor of Environmental Science
- Bachelor of Food Technology
- Bachelor of Marine Studies
- Bachelor of Occupational Health and Safety Science
- Bachelor of Regional and Town Planning
- Bachelor of Veterinary Science
- A dual program including any of the programs listed above
AND - have completed 16 units towards their UQ degree program prior to being awarded the scholarship and going on exchange
AND - have been accepted into the relevant UQ Abroad program
- Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic merit in UQ programs, including (where appropriate) participation in the Advanced Studies Program in Science or other academic enrichment activities
- The scholarship recipient must pass all courses / achieve greater than a 4.0 GPA while enrolled in courses at the exchange institution.
- The scholarship recipient is required to contribute to an online forum designated by the Faculty of Science at least three times throughout their exchange program to communicate their experiences; and within one month of their return to UQ provide a testimonial and high resolution image from their time abroad.
- The recipient may be required to address science students on his/her exchange experience and the benefits of the scholarship.
- At the discretion of the Selection Committee, candidates may be required to attend a short interview.
Application Procedures
Intending applicants are welcome to consult with academic staff in Science initially but must consult with a Student Exchange Advisor in the UQ Abroad Office and supply evidence of acceptance from that office to participate in an exchange when available.
Applications for students going abroad for 1st Semester 2012 should be submitted by completing the online form below before 31 August 2011.
Applications for students going abroad for 2nd Semester 2012 should be submitted by completing the online form below before 28 February 2012.

Closing Date: 25 November annually
Value: $1500

Students enrolled in the final year of a four year or five year bachelor degree program administered by the Faculty of Science, or an honours program after having completed a three year bachelor program at the University or another university, in one of the following disciplines –
(i) agriculture; or
(ii) horticulture; or
(iii) veterinary science; or
(iv) animal studies; or
(v) environmental science; or
(vi) environmental management; or
(vii) food technology; or
(viii) food science and nutrition; or
(ix) a dual program including any of the above.
Best academic performance and application of science outcomes in –
(i) 6 units of courses containing a Biosecurity component for students enrolled in the final year of a four year or five year bachelor program; or
(ii) an honours project in the area of Biosecurity for students enrolled in an honours program, in a relevant discipline
The prize consists of a medal and $1, 500.

The UQ Gatton Past Students Association Scholarship

Value: $5000 per year for the program duration

- The scholarship is to provide assistance to meritorious students who, because of financial, personal or home circumstances might otherwise be unable to enter full-time study at UQ Gatton.
- A student is an eligible applicant for the award of a scholarship in a year, if -
- in the 2 years immediately before, the applicant completed Year 12 (or overseas equivalent); and
- in that year, the applicant -
- commences the first year of an undergraduate program offered at UQ Gatton (the primary program); and
- is studying full-time at Gatton campus.
- The scholarship is awarded to the applicant showing greatest merit as demonstrated by -
- academic achievement in secondary school studies; and
- any financial or personal circumstances that could impede the applicant’s academic progress.
- The recipient of a scholarship may hold the scholarship for the minimum period of time it would take a student to complete the program in which the recipient is enrolled and will be paid in half-yearly instalments, subject to the student -
- maintaining a GPA of at least 4.0 in each semester; and
- continuing to be enrolled full-time at the Gatton campus.

- During the period for which the recipient holds the scholarship, the recipient may transfer from the primary program to another program offered at UQ Gatton (the second program) if the Associate Dean (Academic), Faculty of Science (the Associate Dean) approves the transfer on the basis that they consider the transfer to be appropriate.
- If the Associate Dean approves a transfer under rule (1), the recipient may hold the scholarship for the minimum period of time it would take a student to complete the second program, less the period for which the recipient held the scholarship before transferring to the second program.
- The value of the scholarship is $5,000 for each year for which the scholarship is held.
- UQ Gatton Past Students Association Inc. may review the value of the scholarship from time to time.
