Ecology is one of UQ's Research Strengths and in the Faculty of Science, research in ecology takes place in almost every School. Our research in this area is diverse and includes community, spatial and landscape ecology. Our fundamental research in ecological & evolutionary theory, ecological modelling and data collection is linked to a wide variety of applications, including management of plant and animal communities in relation to human land-use and climate change, plant-insect interactions, bio-control agents and management of marine ecosystems, including the Great Barrier Reef. Ecology and Ecological Applications research rated at the highest level – well above world standard – in the 2015 Excellence in Research for Australia assessment, a distinction also held in the 2010 and 2012 ERA assessments.
